IF THE DETERMINATION IS THERE TO STICK AT IT THROUGH THICK AND THIN, THEN IT’S TIME TO GO FOR IT

The small town of Downpatrick is home to one of the most respected guitar manufacturers in the world, Lowden Guitars. Owner George Lowden made his very first guitar aged ten with just a fishing line and some nails, but little did he know then that his instruments would today be the most coveted in the world.

George started supplying the most iconic musicians in the world in 1974 and today the likes of Ed Sheeran, Eric Clapton and Gary Lightbody consider George a musical genius and the Lowden guitar, a best mate.

Working with only the best quality woods to craft his famous guitars, George pours his passion for music into every commission and shares this sought-after skill-set with his sons to keep the Lowden Legacy alive. But his journey has been a labour of love for more than forty years.

Having always thought outside of the box, George refused to make carbon copies of the guitars that were already available. He wanted to give wood a new lease of life and give players something that would create sounds to stand the test of time. His goal was to inspire the best music.

Nowadays, hits from Eric Clapton and Damien Rice have immortalised George’s talent and Lowden guitars are heard on radios and stages across the world. Each guitar with its own distinct tone, but the same passion in ever wood pore. Although George’s skills are sought after across the world, he has now returned to his local roots, having partnered with Bushmills Irish Whiskey to create the limited edition ‘Bushmills x Lowden’ F-50 guitar, of which only eight are available to buy.

Taking more than 40 hours to create just one, the masterpiece combines hundreds of years of cooper and luthier craftmanship with three types of wood that are steeped in heritage and character. Stand out features of this unique guitar represent the passing of skills from one generation to the next.

To those who have yet to #AnswerTheCall, George says, “If the determination is there to stick at it through thick and thin, then it’s time to go for it.”

George will host ‘Whiskey and Strings’ along-side legendary guitar teacher, Paul McMordie on July 25th at The Sunflower Bar. Attendees will have the opportunity to check out the limited edition ‘Bushmills x Lowden’ collaboration guitar and hear each man’s fearless story. Attendees will enjoy specially created Black Bush serves and intimate sets from surprise musical guests into the late hours.
